Welcome 4 ½ year old Bambi to rescue. Bambi was an owner surrender because she was fighting with another female dog in the home. The fighting started in July and was continuing to increase in frequency and intensity; until the two dogs could not be safely managed in the same room. They were devastated to surrender Bambi, but the other dog that was engaging in fights with her was older.  Bambi’s owners had her since a puppy and provided a lot of great information about her; including vet records, her daily routine, and commands that she knew. One area noted by her previous owners and her previous vet was that she is an anxious, skittish girl. This is likely because for most of her life, Bambi’s exposure to other animals and people was limited to those who lived in the home or a few family members who visited frequently.

Bambi’s foster mom has also had great things to say about her, including that she really is a foster home’s dream as she is crate trained, housebroken, knows basic commands, has manners and rides well in a car. She also has that crazy boxer energy you would expect of a younger girl. In one week, she has already fallen into a good routine of greeting her foster mom with boxer wiggles and excitement, followed by a walk and then playing with toys before settling into the office area for the work day. Evenings are spent going on long walks/hikes, playing and snuggling.

We will post more as we learn about Bambi, but this is what we can say Bambi needs/what we want for her:

• A home willing to take things slow with her but continue to safely expose her to new people and things. Her foster mom has someone meet Bambi every day; just sitting and talking to her quietly, and offering treats – she can already see progress in Bambi’s confidence level.

• An only dog OR a home with a confident male dog. Despite having been surrendered because of fighting with the female dog, she got along well with a male dog in her home and is great with the older boxer mix in the foster home. No cats though.

• A home with people home most of the time as both her original family and her foster mom work from home and that is all she is used to (Although her previous family said she had no problems being left alone in the house and her foster mom concurs)

• A home with a fence OR someone who will walk her and give her lots of exercise. Because of being a bit scared and not used to walks, she will need someone who is consistent with commands to get and keep her attention during walks. She does get easily distracted and overly excited by critters and other distractions in the neighborhood.

If you meet Bambi’s needs, apply today to adopt this beautiful boxer girl.
