Nyla was surrendered to a shelter due to her elderly owner no longer being able to care for her anymore. Her previous owner only had great things to say about her, stating she’s a friendly dog, loves kids, likes other dogs and is housebroken. Shelter staff and our volunteer who first met her also had great things to say about her; both saying she had a great disposition. The shelter staff even let her hang with them in the office and the volunteer said she was bouncy playing with toys and wiggling her boxer butt.

The theme of great things said about Nyla continue as we got our first report from her foster. This is what she sent us: “Wow, it has been a while since I have fostered, and I forgot how fun a 6 year-old boxer can be! I swear it is the perfect age. She has all of the goofiness that I love about boxers with a dash of maturity. It has only been four days but things are going smoothly. I am sure I will learn more as she settles in but my this is what I have experienced so far (1) she loves to wiggle her boxer butt, give me kisses and play with toys (2) she has interest in the resident boxer but is respecting the fact that he has not accepted her yet (3) she knows basic commands, gets super excited to go for a walk and does well on a leash (4) she could benefit from learning some house manners but she is catching on fast! (5) she does OK in the crate, she just needs a few minutes to settle (6) she has not chewed or bothered anything in the house and despite having free run of the spare bedroom at night and the living room while I work in my office during the day. My cameras confirm that she alternates between tossing a toy around to entertain herself, standing watch at the window looking for passersby, and napping.

I can also confirm what the shelter said about her weight. She is a bit chunky and has some hair loss for her hypothyroidism. The good news for me, for her, and for whatever lucky family adopts her is that hypothyroidism is easy to treat, and she takes her daily medicine with ease.”
